Social media giants like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram are experiencing a downtime across the globe, with thousands of users complaining of their inaccessibility to them, as per Downdetector.
Downdetector confirmed that WhatsApp downtime was reported at 8:23 pm (Pakistan Standard Time) and the number of complaints jumped to 17,659 complaints at 9:06pm.
The website noted that the Instagram outage was first reported at 7:59pm. Facebook was down for a while in that same time.
WhatsApp was last down in March. It was restored hours later. However the cause of the downtime was not disclosed by WhatsApp. The photo-sharing app Instagram was also offline earlier in the month and was restored after hours.
In a post on Twitter after the downtime, WhatsApp tweeted that it is working on resolving the problem and it urged users to remain patient.
“We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!”
Facebook apologizes to users
After WhatsApp posted about its downtime, Facebook followed suit and posted: “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing the Facebook app. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
