Legendary comedian Umar Sharif passes away in German hospital

The legendary comic Umer Sharif has passed away in Germany at the age of 66 following a long illness.

He was transferred back to United States through an air ambulance and his spouse Zareen Ghazal.

The air ambulance needed to arrive at Germany following the condition of the famous comedian was declining. Germany has allowed the emergency landing for humanitarian reasons and granted the comedy the king and his wife with an extended 15-day visa.

The legendary comedy legend Umer Sharif’s remains will lie in the burial ground of saint Syed Abdullah Shah Ghazi (RA) in Karachi in accordance with his wishes, Sindh Minister for Information Saeed Ghani on Saturday said.

Mohammad Umer, known professionally as Umer Sharif was born April 19th 1955. Umer Sharif was an Pakistani comedian, actor producer, director and a television host. He was widely regarded as one of the top comedians of the sub-continent.

in 1974 the famous comedian made his debut at the age of 24 in Karachi by becoming a stage actor. He joined the theatre with as his stage name Umer Zarif and later changed the stage name to Umer Sharif. A couple of his most popular stage comedy shows included Bakra Qistoon in 1989 and Buddha Ghar Pe Ha.

Umer Sharif has been awarded National awards for Best Director and Best Actor in 1992’s Mr.”420. He has won the equivalent of ten Nigar Awards. Sharif has been the first actor who has received 4 Nigar Awards in a single year. Sharif has also been a winner of Tamgha-e Imtiaz.
